As a ranger your main role in a group or raid is DPS, DPS, and more DPS. This means
you must make increasing your DPS the main focus when choosing new equipment and
spell upgrades. Upgrading spells and weapons should always be your number one
priority.
The second most important thing you must learn how to do is control your agro and
survive. As a high damage melee player you’ll find you can generate a lot of agro even
during quite short fights. While doing large amounts of damage is your main focus, you
must place some importance on learning how to manage your agro so that the damage
you do doesn’t end up getting you killed. While you’re dead you’re not doing any damage
so your secondary focus should be on learning how to avoid the attention of mobs when
you’re in groups or raids (and how to deal with it when you do get it), and on upgrading
spells and equipment that increase your survivability.
